Social Media Marketing: Facebook (Part 2)

This is Part 2 in the Social Media Marketing series. In this post I will be explaining the best way to go about gaining fans, acquiring “Likes”, and starting conversations on your Facebook Fan Page.

Facebook has over 500 million users. So why would anyone think it could really be hard to gain fans on your Facebook Fan Page? Well one simple answer, because it is hard…

The Perfect Fan Page

When creating your Fan Page, always make sure to include a professional photo of yourself, or add a logo for your freelancing business. People love branding, so a logo usually works best and can attract potential clients by showing your professionalism.

Your info page is another very important aspect when it comes to creating the perfect Fan Page. Always make sure to include your website, because if clients view your fan page they will want to visit your website if they like what you have to say. In the info box make sure to add all of the services that your business provides, which will answer a lot of question people may have about what you do.  Adding your email is also another big pointer because I have seen so many Facebook Fan Pages with absolutely no way to contact the owner.

As taught in (Part 1) of this series, you must not flood your fans with links to your own personal writing. Make sure to interact and talk amongst them to make them feel involved, and not feel like they are being spammed. If fans have your stories constantly popping up on their news feeds, odds are that they will start hiding your posts. Start some interesting conversations with your fans so that they do not get bored of your page. This way they will be happy when they see a new interesting conversation come across their news feed. Making your fans happy will lead to more fans joining. It is all about word of mouth, and this is a great way to go about it.

Gaining Fans

People get confused when it comes to gaining fans for their Facebook Fan Page. Sure at first this can be a very difficult task, but when you get the ball rolling it is amazing to see how many people actually like your work.

Going to other Facebook Fan Pages that are in the same field as yours is a great way to market your page. Since you are most likely a freelance writer if you are reading this, you should go to another freelance writer’s page that has fans and ask permission to post a link. If you are approved by that writer then you can spread the word through their page, as well as your own marketing.

Make sure that if you do ask a freelance writer to post a link on their page that you at least participate in conversations. Do not just be the guy/girl that goes in, posts a link, and never says another word ever again. Be active in communities so this way they will be interested in you and your work.

Integrating the “Like” Button

Every personal freelance site, which is running a blog, should have a “Like” button integrated into their post (Personally I don’t because I still have not figured out how to add one on Blogger). This is a great way to make your post go viral. If you add a “Like” button to the post, viewers will be able to like it, which means that everyone looking at the viewers Facebook page will be able to see your post.

Adding a “Like” button for your Facebook Fan Page, on the home page of your website, can increase the amount of Fans you have immensely. Every time that someone views your website they will be shown a list of people that have liked your Fan Page, as well as being given the option to “Like” the page themselves. By putting a Fan Page box on your website, viewers will be able to find your page on Facebook easily, without having to search for it themselves (which most people do not bother with).
